China: Don’t Legalize Incommunicado Detentions

The Chinese legislature should delete provisions in the draft criminal procedure law that would allow the incommunicado detention in undisclosed locations of certain categories of criminal suspects.

(New York) –The Chinese legislature should delete provisions in the draft criminal procedure law that would allow the incommunicado detention in undisclosed locations of certain categories of criminal suspects, Human Rights Watch said today. The proposed legislation would violate China’s obligations under international law.
